For The Birds News & Links

Our News Is... For The Birds!

For The Birds Has Moved! Note our new address: 1560 E. 2nd Avenue. In April 2007, we moved our store across the street, on the river trail at Rotary Park. Come by and see our expanded lines of bird feeders and backyard decor, including recycled plastic Adirondack chairs in bright, maintenance-free colors! We also offer cold drinks for hot days, hats, kites, frisbees, and river discovery toys and tools!

"Crow", the store cat, was adopted from the La Plata County Humane Society. He now proudly wears the Cat Bib, that keeps him from catching songbirds around the feeder.

It should be easy to find us. But if you have trouble, just look for the giant bird above our entrance and the beautiful bird and butterfly gardens out front.

Durango Named "Distinctive Destination" By The National Trust
The National Trust for Historic Preservation, the country's largest private, nonprofit preservation organization, has named Durango, Colorado to its 2007 list of America's Dozen Distinctive Destinations, an annual list of unique and lovingly preserved communities in the United States. Durango was selected from 63 destinations in 27 states that were nominated by individuals, preservation organizations and local communities.

See Our Blue Puma!
While you're out and about, don't forget to stop on by For The Birds to see our Blue Puma: "The Soaring Raven Cat" by local artist Miki Harder. Harder's life-like ravens soar across the landscape of the puma body as they gurgle and gossip to their host and each other all they've seen and heard. Whichever lore one admires about ravens, the theme of multi-dimensionality is universal, perhaps reminding us to think past ourselves. This was a fund-raising project of the San Juan Mountains Association.
